ELEMENTAL'S GUIDO VAN ROSSUM WINS CMP MEDIA JOLT PRODUCTIVITY AWARD FOR POPULAR PYTHON SCRIPTING LANGUAGE
Language Architect Wins Software Development Magazine Award for Technology Underlying the Innovative Policy Expression Language in the Elemental Compliance System
SAN MATEO, Calif. - April 25, 2005 - Elemental Security, Inc. TM, a company pioneering new technology in enterprise information security, today announced that Guido van Rossum, Elemental language architect, has received a 2005 Jolt Productivity Award for the Python scripting language, which Van Rossum developed between 1990 and 2005.
The editors of Software Development magazine announced the 15 th Annual Software Development Jolt Awards last month. Van Rossum's Python v2.4 language won a 2005 Jolt Productivity Award in the Languages and Development Environment category.
Python is at the core of Elemental's next-generation security compliance management product - the Elemental Compliance System TM. At Elemental, Van Rossum developed a derivative of this scripting language called Fuel TM , the first and only custom policy language that enables intuitive cross-platform policy expression and easy deployment of policies throughout a computing environment. With no programming involved, organizations can leverage the language in the Elemental Compliance System to express policies in a manner that more closely resembles how they were written in a security policy document, without worrying about implementation details or platform-specific issues.
"Agility was a key theme of this year's judging, and Python is a flexible scripting language that has continued to gain in popularity since Guido van Rossum introduced it 15 years ago," said Rosalyn Lum, Software Development technical editor. "Python remains the scripting language of choice by not only Jolt judges, but by discerning and insightful developers throughout the world."
For the past 15 years, Software Development Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards have been presented annually to products, books and websites that have "jolted" the industry by helping to create faster, easier and more efficient software. Jolt cola, the fabled soft drink used by software developers for sustenance during development projects, sponsors the awards presentation.
Elemental delivers the world's only product that unifies policy management, host configuration and network access control in one seamlessly integrated offering. For the first time, enterprises can easily express cross-platform security policies that affect individual computers and their behavior on the network, gather meaningful up-to-date information to compare to established metrics, and selectively enforce policies across a diverse, dynamic environment.
Elemental helps organizations reduce exposure to risks by providing visibility and understanding of enterprises' computing environments through continuous monitoring. The Elemental Compliance System also identifies and contains unauthorized machines on the network, and enforces required policies to ensure compliance. In addition, the solution reduces the cost of network and policy administration by dynamically grouping machines based on their attributes; and reduces the cost, frequency and effort involved in internal and external audit exercises.
The Elemental Compliance System
The Elemental Compliance System is an enterprise security software solution that enables organizations to express, monitor, and enforce security policies for any computer connecting to the network. It is a client-server security system that provides broad visibility into all hosts in the enterprise and the means to control or contain them through auto-deployed security policies. The system consists of the Elemental server and Elemental agents running on workstations and server hosts throughout a network. Elemental's architecture is unique in its ability to detect, monitor and control hosts with or without Elemental agents running on them.
