ELEMENTAL CLIENT WINS COVETED NETWORK WORLD ALL-STAR AWARD
University at Buffalo Health Sciences recognized for innovative use of Elemental Security Platform 2.0, reaping well over $100,000 of ROI
SAN MATEO, Calif. – October 4, 2006 – Elemental Security, Inc. (Elemental), the award-winning pioneer of new technology in enterprise information security, today announced that The State University of New York at Buffalo, Health Sciences Schools’ IT department (UB Health Sciences) has won Network World’s Enterprise All-Star Award for its cost-efficient and inventive deployment of Elemental Security Platform (ESP) 2.0.
For the second year, Network World has published its “Enterprise All-Star” issue. This highly anticipated and widely-read issue by the leading Network IT industry publication recognizes 40 outstanding projects and the companies who implemented them. Each project is chosen for the way it advances the use of new technology or uses mainstream tools in a ground-breaking way to further business interests. UB Health Sciences was one of 12 organizations, including Credit Suisse and Prudential Financial, to win for innovative and effective use of security technology. The university began deploying ESP 2.0 in June, 2006 to ensure network security and HIPAA ( The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance for users and data distributed over 50 independent clinical sites and five hospital systems. UB’s five health sciences schools are the School of Dental Medicine, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and School of Public Health and Health Professions. The University at Buffalo is a premier research-intensive public university, the largest and most comprehensive campus in the State University of New York system.
“Network security isn’t that unusual, except that our problem was complicated by the fact that the University does not manage all of the networks that our machines reside within,” said Brian Murphy, director of Health Sciences IT at the school.
But Elemental’s policy-based system makes the state and activity of users and computers fully transparent, enabling customers to directly translate their business and organizational objectives into specific policies for all users and systems.
